Basic Interviewing Tips

While job interviewing may not come naturally for most people, much can be done in advance to increase your prospects as a candidate. You need to know how to effectively sell yourself, communicate your skills and experience, and to portray your personality accurately. Being properly prepared for your interview is indispensable in finding the right job.

Your Wilson Employment Networks Staffing Consultant will work with you to refine your interviewing skills and help you feel more confident on your next interview. When applicable, he or she will also make recommendations regarding the format and content of your résumé. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your interview with your Staffing Consultant:

Be Punctual

Be on time for your interview. Plan to arrive about fifteen minutes early, and check in with the interviewer or at the front desk about five to ten minutes prior to your scheduled appointment.

Dress Appropriately

Dress for your interview at Wilson Employment Networks the same way you would for any other professional interview. Remember, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression! Conservative business attire is appropriate for most settings, and your appearance should be neat, clean, pressed and polished.

Practice Good Communication Skills

It is important to use good communication skills during the interview. Practice with a friend or by videotaping a mock interview. To communicate effectively:

  • present yourself in a positive and confident manner
  • offer a firm handshake
  • speak clearly and effectively
  • listen attentively and maintain eye contact
  • avoid the use of unnecessary verbal and non-verbal distractions

Field Employee Testimonials

"I have worked for Wilson Employment Networks for over a year and I’d like to say that I have worked for other Employment Agencies in the past but your company has been the best I’ve ever worked for!  An extremely professional company, when I had questions –I got answers immediately—whether it is a payroll questions or just plain questions in general, I always was assured that I would get a response.  A Holiday gift at Christmas was also given to me –to show appreciation of the work that I have done.  A special thank you to Lynn Johnson who has been my contact at Wilson throughout—thank you Lynn!”
